The Sickle cell Disease

This is something very peculiar which many people tend to ignore.

The Sickle cell Disease is a group of disorders that cause the red blood cells to malform and breakdown. NB: The red blood cells carries blood oxygen from the lungs to the rest of the body.

You inherit the Sickle cell Disease 1 set from your mother and 1 set from your father. To be born with the disease, a child inherits it from both parents and this is so when both parents are "Carriers" of the Sickle cell gene.

Most offen this disease has some effects

1) Children with this disease tend to visit the hospital offen

2) Most victims Immune system is very weak

3) They are physically pale and commonly have yellow eyes

4) They are physically and psychological fragile

5) They are open to common bacteria infections.

However the Sickle cell Disease has no cure but one could take preventive methods to avoid being a sickler.

You need to know your Genotype that is you need to know if you are( AA, AS, SS) .

AA( very Healthy)

AS( A carrier of the gene)

SS( A sickler)

If you are AA, and your partner is AA it means you two are very compactible.

If you are AA and Your partner is AS then your children will either be an AA and AS that is you will have children healthy and some will be Carrie's of the gene.

If you are AS and Your partner is AS, you have a 1/4 Chance that your children will be a sickler.

NB: 1/4 means either all 4 children are Sicklers, 1 is a sickler or None are.

The best way to stop this is by testing yourself and knowing your genotype before engaging into marriage and sexual intercourse with your partner so as to know if you are compactible with your partner health wise.

Let's all especially Youths stop being ignorant about this so that Sickle cell babies won't be born.
